Custom Machined
Parts for Marine Transport at Specialty Bar Products Company
Specialty Bar Products (SBP) Company is a reliable provider of precision machined parts for marine applications. Supplying major OEMs around the United States as well as the world, SBP machines propeller blade bolts, shafts, and other components from high-grade, corrosion-resistant steel bar stock. Read on to see some of the parts Specialty Bar Products machines for marine transport operations:
part: propeller blade bolts
material: K500 Monel®, 718 Inconel®
part: custom shafts
materials: 718 Inconel®, K500 Monel®
Precision machining 718 Inconel® and K500 Monel® results in hardware of superior durability and corrosion resistance. 718 Inconel® is a high-strength, nickel-based superalloy which retains dimensional stability in both hot and cold temperature extremes. SBP can heat treat this age-hardenable alloy to increase its strength as well as its transverse ductility to avoid snapping or shattering during operation. SBP can machine 718 Inconel® in the aged condition as well as the annealed condition. The addition of chromium to the nickel base imparts qualities of corrosion resistance in the presence of seawater.
K500 Monel® is an age-hardened nickel-copper superalloy. SBP machines this material in the annealed form and then age hardens it for increased strength. SBP also has the capabilities to machine K500 Monel® in the aged condition. When precision machined by Specialty Bar Products, K500 Monel® forms components known for superior corrosion resistance to salt water, as well as caustic acids.
Specialty Bar Products in Action:
Custom Machining for Corrosion-Resistant Hardware
Specialty Bar Products forges and machines corrosion resistant hardware that is used in many different types of watercraft, including commercial freighters, submarines, leisure boats, and more. The corrosion resistant nature of the nickel-based alloy steel bar stock used by SBP ensures that even in the presence of salt water the propeller blade bolts resist crevice corrosion to the threading and remain securely fastened to the main shaft. These parts and components must be able to avoid damage by seawater and are custom machined to exact customer specifications and then tested for quality with SBP’s state-of-the-art NDT equipment.
