Specialty
Bar Products Company:
Thread Rolling and Thread Cutting
Specialty Bar Products (SBP) Company has gained
a domestic and international reputation as a superior custom precision
machining company by meeting extremely close dimensional tolerances
during manufacturing processes such as thread rolling and thread
cutting. With a full line of thread rolling and thread cutting
machines, Specialty Bar Products manufactures high quality steel
bar parts and components, such as custom fasteners or blade bolts,
for military, commercial
transportation, power generation,
and other applications.
Precision Machining Services: Thread Cutting
Machines
Specialty Bar Products Company uses thread
cutting machines to produce bolts and other parts or components
with full sized bodies. With thread cutting, SBP can produce virtually
any diameter or thread length and, furthermore, meet any quality
or customer specification. Please
see below to discover the thread cutting machines available at
SBP and their capabilities:
3 Landis 7/8” 2 Spindle
4 Landis 1-1/2” 2 Spindles
1 Landis 2-1/2” 2 Spindle, minimum diameter: 3/8”, maximum diameter: 2-1/2”
Thread cutting is a precision machining process that cuts away steel from a full diameter round steel bar. The unthreaded portion of the steel bar stock, therefore, is the major diameter of the finished product. Thread cutting tends to be a more demanding machining process; at Specialty Bar Products, however, our machinists have the experience and skill to efficiently produce precision cut threaded parts and components for competitive prices.
Precision Machining Services: Thread Rolling
Machines
Thread rolling is a highly cost-effective method
of precision threading steel bar stock. Specialty Bar Products
maintains a variety of thread
rolling equipment for forming the exact geometries and diameters
as specified by the customer. Below,
you can view the types and capabilities of SBP’s thread
rolling machines:
1 Tesker Model 215
1 Reed A34
3 Tesker Model 645
1 Wanderer RM 60X
1 Wanderer RM 32X
1 Tsugami, minimum diameter: 6”, maximum diameter: 8",
maximum length: up to 12’ based on diameter for handling
1 Reed A22
1 Kinefac MC100
1 Tesker Model 840, minimum diameter:
12”, maximum diameter: 24” x 29”
During thread rolling, the threads are cold formed by exerting high pressures via reciprocating serrated dies. The pressure to the steel bar stock increases the major diameter over the pitch diameter. Steel bars that undergo thread rolling are often fabricated at pitch diameter, meaning the diameter of the steel bar stock is reduced; the full diameter, or major diameter, refers to the largest possible diameter of a roll threaded steel shaft. Thread rolling is capable of achieving both external threads and bolts as well as internal and nut threads.
Precision Machining Services for
Thread Rolling: Chamfering
2 Specialty Bolt Pointing Machine, maximum diameter: 2”
The pointing machines used by Specialty Bar Products Company chamfer, or bevel, an edge before thread rolling is begun. The chamfer is created as part of the thread rolling process, which can increase the amount of time required to machine a part but often aids in the assembly of the final product.
