422 Stainless Steel Bar for Precision Machining
Alloy 422 is a standard martensitic stainless steel and is known also as plain chromium steel. With a relatively high carbon content (from 0.20% to 0.25%), 422 stainless steel bar can contain chromium ranging from 11.0% to 13.0%. These alloying elements impart a moderate degree of corrosion resistance as well as resistance to scaling in environments with elevated temperature. 422 stainless steel bar, however, can undergo heat treatment to obtain a higher level of strength while retaining a good level of ductility. Though sometimes used in the annealed condition, 422 stainless steel bar achieves its best corrosion resistance when hardened then stress relieved.
