Machining Alloy Steel Bar
Specialty Bar Products Company (SBP) relies on high grade alloy steel bar for the production of custom components and parts for a variety of applications, including military equipment and part machining. As a supplier of custom machining services to the U.S. military, militaries of allied foreign governments, national and international OEM’s, etc., Specialty Bar Products stocks large quantities of many types of alloy steel bars and, furthermore, works to internal specifications or customer specifications to ensure that the custom component functions as-intended even under the most severe conditions. SBP precision machines alloy steel bars into products that include but are not limited to the following:
Military
track pins
Steel
bushings
Axle shafts
Custom
torsion bars
Specialty fasteners
Commercial
shafting
Wind,
Steam,
and Gas

Alloy steel comprises a family of iron-based metals that contain, in addition to various alloying elements, chromium levels not exceeding 3.99%. Alloying elements determine the alloy steel bar’s mechanical properties. Housing an A2LA Accredited Mechanical, Metallurgical, and Metrology Lab, Specialty Bar Products Company is able to help customers select the right alloy steel grade; contact SBP now for more information or continue reading to learn about the properties of various grades of alloy steel bar:
4130 alloy steel bar is designated a low alloy steel containing chromium and molybdenum for strength. Hardenable by heat treatment, alloy 4130 is characterized by toughness with high fatigue strength that makes it a good choice when custom machining shock absorbing bushings.
4140 and 4140H alloy steels contain manganese, molybdenum, and chromium which create properties of torsional and wear strength as well as toughness. These properties make alloys 4140 and 4140H acceptable materials for the machining of track pins and the accompanying nuts and bolts as well as commercial shafting, steel bushings, and specialty fasteners.
5160H alloy steel bar is valued
for its high strength as well as its ductility. Hardenable by
heat treatment and oil quenching, SBP precision machines track
pins, nuts, and bolts for tracked armored fighting vehicles and
commercial tracked vehicles.
8650H is an alloy steel containing chromium, molybdenum, and nickel. Machined for track pins, nuts, bolts, and other custom components, alloy 8650H is often used in the annealed form for increased mechanical properties.
10V45 alloy steel bar is designated
for custom machining track pins, nuts, bolts, and other hardware.
Alloy 10V45s chemistry was developed to manufacture truck
suspension parts that will perform to the highest standards.
4352 is an internal specification by Specialty Bar Products. Similar to alloy 4340, the modified chemistry of 4352 alloy steel bar makes it hardenable by heat treatment, extremely tough, and known for fatigue resistance. SBP often uses alloy 4352 in the manufacture of military track pins and other custom components.
ASTM A193 Grade - B16 & B7
alloy steel bar is high-strength low alloy steel that exhibits
properties of high fatigue and wear strength. This alloy steel
bar is commonly used for custom machining jobs that specify a
need for good mechanical properties in elevated temperature environments.
